H. ( Henry ) Carpenter, father of Edna Carpenter, class of 1934, was a custodian at Godwn for many years, up until about 1949. The custodial staff was given a copy of the school annual each year, and those given to Henry Carpenter were made available by Edna (Carpenter) keys for use on the "Godwin's Past" web site.

Dale Heyboer, class of 1947, reports that many students living quite far from Godwin had to be quite innovative about getting to school. Dale and others would sometimes get rides from people going to work if they passed by Godwin. In Dale's case, that meant he arrived at school before the school opened. He says that Henry Carpenter would open the door and let them wait inside. Dale and others apparently got to know Mr. Carpenter quite well.
